- Health Effects: Mold has been linked to a number of health issues, including allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory problems.
- Control Moisture, Control Mold: The best way to control mold is to control the moisture in your home. Fix any leaks or water problems as soon as they are discovered.
- Insulate: If your pipes tend to produce condensation, you should strongly consider insulating them to prevent mold growth.
- Humidity is not your Friend: Besides moisture, mold needs humidity to grow. Reduce indoor humidity to 30-60% to decrease the chances of mold growth. You can do this by venting bathrooms and dryers to the outdoors, increasing ventilation, using dehumidifiers, and more.
- Be Smart: Do not install carpeting in areas prone to moisture.
- Time is of the Essence: Mold growth can begin in just 24-48 hours following water intrusion. So time is of the essence.
